Verbal Reasoning

Non-Verbal Reasoning

English

Evaluates reading comprehension, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Candidates read passages and answer questions testing their understanding, inference skills, and technical English knowledge. Strong readers typically excel here.

Mathematics

Covers the full Key Stage 2 curriculum including arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra, geometry, and problem-solving. Questions are often presented as word problems requiring careful reading and logical working.

How the ISEB Pre-Test is Scored

The ISEB Pre-Test uses an age-standardised scoring system. Raw scores are converted to standardised scores that account for the candidate’s age in years and months on the test date. This means a younger Year 6 candidate is compared fairly against older candidates.
