Abu Dhabi has invested heavily in education and now has a strong set of private and international schools, several of them among the best in the region. The schools below are among the most respected in the emirate. The order reflects our overall view across academics, university outcomes, pastoral care and breadth, and where a school holds an Outstanding rating from ADEK, the emirate’s regulator, we have noted it. As always, the right school for your child may not be the one at the top of the list.
Each school has its own character and ethos. While results matter, the best school for your child is the one where they will thrive. We encourage families to visit several schools and weigh fit alongside any ranking.
How much do private schools in Abu Dhabi cost?
Fees vary between schools and rise as a child moves up the school. They are set by each school and change from year to year, and usually exclude extras such as transport, so the only reliable figure is the current one confirmed with the school itself.
What is ADEK, and how do the ratings work?
ADEK is the Department of Education and Knowledge, Abu Dhabi’s education regulator. It inspects private schools and rates them from Outstanding at the top, through Very Good, Good and Acceptable, down to Weak, much as KHDA does in Dubai. A rating is a useful starting point, but it is worth reading alongside your own visit and confirming the current position on the ADEK website.

Abu Dhabi’s schools are inspected and rated by ADEK from Outstanding down to Weak, and many British schools also hold British Schools Overseas accreditation, both of which we take into account alongside published results and reputation.
